Hyderabad is divided into two worlds .The old city- which has its own rustic charm and the New city- which is young, vibrant and professional. The pace at which India is developing today strikes you immediately as you pass through the number of corporate and IT hubs in Hyderabad.Right in the middle of the IT hub in Hyderabad stands this 5 star hotel, from the outside you may pass it off as just another corporate hub,but inside its a completely different encounter. True to its contemporary style,it has a modern-chic yet classy look about it.

Ohm at Avasa

The lobby is minimal with its optical fiber chandelier and a mirrored pond but elegantly designed. This is where their restaurant 'OHM' is situated. First impression of this restaurant is that ' cosy romantic place you would go on a date to'.
Ohm has 2 sections mezzanine and ground which does make it appear a bit cluttered. In its full capacity it can seat not more than 60-70 people.

The Experience-

The exotic Jasmine tea

We were promptly welcomed by a hostess and seated to our table. The jasmine tea was served (the clear glass teapot caught my fancy completely) and we were asked for our preference of mocktails.

I had a raw mango mocktail which was very tropical and refreshing.I had it in water instead of soda which made it a bit mild though.

Raw Mango Mocktail

Since we were a part of the foodies meetup group, the chefs at Ohm had arranged a special set lunch for us showcasing their best dishes.
This was what we ate-
Special Set Menu

They offered 9 starters out of which 4 were non veg. We started with crispy shitake with enoki. It was nice and crisp but had a prominent flavor of soy sauce. The veg steamed dumpling helped balance the strong flavor and were served piping hot just as they should be.There were veg spring rolls on the table which went well with the sweet chilli sauce.

Non Veg starters

Next we went on to the non veg starters and tried wasabi prawns, crispy lamb and chicken shumai.
Chicken shumai had a pleasant delicate flavor which left me wanting more. There were 3 dipping sauces served with dumplings. The lamb was crispy enough flavoured with a dash of oyster sauce and 3 different bell peppers. But the wasabi prawns stood out having the right kind of punch needed yet not being too overpowering.

Wasabi Prawns

Crispy Lamb with 3 peppers

I was so full with the starters that i needed to take a lil break from eating.
The next course was soup, since Mitesh was with me,we tried both the soups ,and to his surprise i liked the spinach soup more as i found it more flavorful than its watered down counterpart.I loved the way they served the soups- it had a sense of mystic feel about it.

Then we approached the salad counter, now though they mentioned only 2 salads in the menu, there was a vast selection of small cold salad portions they served of the counter.
Here are the salads we had:

Most of them had a mayonnaise base which is why they were not my most favorite. Plus honestly after 2 hours of eating,i knew i would do much justice to salads and main course.
For the main course we had everything .All of them were average regular main courses one would expect at an oriental restaurant, except the okra .

Jasmine rice and the Main course

The pedang curry was sauteed veggies in a coco-nutty peanut flavored curry , the claypot chicken had good chunks of meat, the lamb rendang looked like an Indian Malay preparation. The okra though was quite unique.I never knew okra could one day feature in an oriental preparation. May be that's what they mean by "Contemporary Asian".Mitesh had the sea bass which he said was delicate but not insipid.

The Oriental Okra

My stomach was giving up with every morsel but my mind wanted to sample more and more.It was time for a walk (with a hope i would digest some food and make space for desserts :P) and a little photo of us together.

The jaggery ice cream

For the desserts we had the blueberry cheesecake, chocolate tart, sticky toffee pudding, the best being the jaggery ice cream which had just the right amount of sweetness for me (Considering i don't have a big sweet tooth).

Tropical fruits

Oh ya in between the meals we did have a generous helping of tropical fruits which should hopefully help me digest my grandiose meal i had at OHM.

Pros- Ambiance, Location in the heart of IT hub, unique signature dishes.

Cons- Expensive (yet worth it) need to order the right dishes.

Recommendations-Wasabi Prawns and Okra.

Verdict- With the amount i paid (Rs 850 per person) and the food and service i got it was completely fantastic experience.I will go there again for sure.

P.S- Sorry for this long post but we did eat a lot so thought it needed all the details.
All the pics are taken with my Nexus phone (except the group photo)
